For when I was hungry, you gave me food;
when I was thirsty, you gave me drink;
when I was homeless, you gave me a welcome.

Matthew 25:35

  • St Ignatius

    • English Martyrs' Parish is 'paired' with St Ignatius parish.

      Not only do we share the parish priest, Fr Tom, who strives hard to equally devote his time and energy to both parishes, but we also enjoy a  spirit of friendship and welcome between both parishes.

      The church is situated in Meadow Street, just across the ring-road from the Holiday Inn.  A mere five minutes walk from the city centre, it is a quiet and serene haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • Ecumenical Links

    • English Martyrs' Parish had, in the past, forged a close friendship with Emmanuel Church. That relationship has been 're-ignited' and also grew to include a strong friendship with Eldon Street Methodist Church. Unfortunately this year (2008) hasn’t been a good year for Eldon St Methodist Church, as they have had to close the church.

      Apart from that bad news, the three ministers – Frs  Tom Singleton, Stephen Johnson and David Wood – continue to meet on a regular basis. We also have monthly morning prayer together, and we had an ecumenical Carol Service  too, which was multicultural to boot. We continue to keep each other informed about events which are mutually interesting and useful.

  • L'Arche

    • L'Arche UK Communities provide real homes, friendship and work to more than 130 adults with learning disabilities, and a similar number of assistants.  Their members share home life in ordinary houses, much like any family. Shopping, cooking, sharing a meal, going to work - through these simple daily tasks, people learn and grow.

      L'Arche Preston is the youngest of the LArche UK communities, founded in 1998 and presently home to 11 members, five of whom have learning disabilities. Other community members include two families living nearby, the local management committee and other active supporters.

      "Whatever their gifts or limitations, people are all bound together in a common humanity. Everyone is of unique and sacred value and everyone has the same dignity and the same rights. The fundamental rights of each person include the rights to life, to care, to a home, to education and to work. Since the deepest need of a human being is to love and to be loved, each person has a right to friendship, to communion and to a spiritual life".

      The L'Arche Community, Preston, resides in our parish, and as such we have strong links with the Community and its resident 'family'. If you would like to become more involved with building our links with L'Arche, please contact us.
