Fire Safety

The Health & safety of our parishioners and visitors is paramount at English Martyrs' Church. Therefore, we have ensured that there is adequate equipment in place for emergency use, i.e. fire extinguishers, a fire blanket and first aid equipment.


A list of Certified First Aiders can be seen on the notice board in church along with a plan of the church showing fire exits and emergency equipment locations (see below).

  • Fire Extinguishers & First Aid Kit
    types uses & locations

    • Water: for use against class A fires involving wood, paper, textiles and other class A risks.

      Water extinguishers can be found in:

      St Thomas' Room: situated by the Chapel Entry Door

      The Narthex: situated on either side wall.
       

      Dry Powder: for use against class A, B & C fires. Highly effective against petrol and volatile liquids.

      Powder extinguishers can be found in:

      St Thomas' Room Kitchen: situated on the wall
      above the worktop near the door.
       

      AFFF Foam:  for use against class A & B fires. Highly effective against petrol and volatile liquids, forming a flame smothering seal over the surface and thus also preventing re-ignition.

      Foam extinguishers can be found in:

      The Church: on the side walls
      at either side of the Nave at the crossing.
       

      CO2 Carbon Dioxide: effective in confined areas, where there is a risk from flammable liquids, being non-toxic and leaving no residue CO2 will not harm food, fabrics, machinery or electrical equipment.

      CO2 extinguishers can be found in:

      The Entrance Hall: between the Chapel & St Thomas' Room.
       

      Fire Blankets: used to cover a fire to cut its supply of oxygen or wrap a person whose clothes are on fire.

      A Fire Blanket can be found in:

      St Thomas' Room Kitchen: on the wall to the side of  the cooker.
       

      First Aid Kit:  to be utilised in an emergency primarily by the appointed (qualified) first aiders.

      A First Aid Kit can be found in:

      St Thomas' Room: on the wall behind the Chapel Entry Door.
