Exposition is one way in which we give honour to the Holy Eucharist, by exposing It, with proper solemnity, to the view of the faithful in order that they may spend time in prayer before It ('watching'). It is a busy world with much noise and many distractions - TV, radio, music, computers and cell phones, to name a few. The challenge is to be quiet and alone with God and ourselves. As we live busy lives and engage the world, it is important to find personal quiet time for prayer and reflection. One of the great treasures the Church offers in order to be alone with God and ourselves is Eucharistic Adoration. Pope Benedict wrote, "In life today, which is often noisy and scattered, it is more important than ever to recover the capacity for interior silence and recollection: Eucharistic adoration permits one to do this not only within one's 'I' but rather in the company of that 'You' full of love who is Jesus Christ, 'the God who is near us.'” During adoration you have the opportunity to pray before the very presence of Christ. You can have "face-to-face" time with Jesus to recite your favourite prayers or pray the rosary, read the bible, think about how you have encountered God in your day-to-day activities, or any other prayerful devotion that comes to you before Christ. You can also simply sit quietly and keep Jesus company the way you would a close friend. Mother Teresa said, "the time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will help bring about everlasting peace on earth."
