The protection of vulnerable people of all ages is taken very seriously in the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It is important that those within the church who are responsible for the protection of children and vulnerable adults ensure that a safe environment is created for all and that their protection is held as paramount. It is for these reasons that all people who come into contact with children and vulnerable adults within our parishes will need to receive some training and be asked to provide references for their suitability. This may seem a bit strange at first especially for those who have worked in the parishes for years, however we really have no choice it is something that needs to be done. Our parish and St Ignatius’ parish jointly have four parish protection representatives: Geoff Thompson, Julie Moss, Their role is to ensure that the English Martyrs & St Ignatius Churches are abiding by all the protection guidelines and promoting a warm and safe environment for our children and those who are vulnerable. The commitment to the protection of vulnerable children and adults is supported by the late Pope John Paul II 'People need to know that there is no place in the priesthood and religious life for those who would harm the young' Pope John Paul 23rd - April 2002
"Each one of us, as members of the parish community of St Thomas of Canterbury & the English Martyrs, Preston, is eager to proclaim Christ's Gospel of Life and Hope to all. As God's people, we aim to protect all individuals whilst in our care and on our premises, from physical, emotional and sexual abuse - especially children, young people and those who are vulnerable. We welcome and encourage the development of a climate of trust and openness, and the building of a safe environment for all."
